Vetoquinol's Azodyl is a very popular and effective product for treating the complications of kidney disease in dogs and cats. While many forms of kidney disease can't be cured, Azodyl can improve the quality of life for affected animals by reducing compounds that impair the kidneys' waste elimination process.
We get a lot of questions from customers about how we ship this product, and how to keep it fresh afterward. Everybody's heard that it needs to stay cold. But what do purchasers of Azodyl really need to know?
The first step is our responsibility, and we will do our utmost to protect your shipment. We store all of our Azodyl in special temperature-controlled industrial refrigerators. We use special cooler packaging just for Azodyl, and we will also apply two or more ice packs, depending on the quantity ordered.
We only ship Azodyl on Monday-Wednesday. This to avoid any risk of it sitting in a shipping facility or on the back of a truck over the weekend. And, we always ship it Two Day Federal Express or faster. So, if you order from us on a Friday, don’t worry—we won’t let your shipment sit in a hot warehouse over the weekend.
While our preparations will take care of your order en route to you, it's vital that you be there to receive it when it arrives. Letting it sit on your front porch or mailbox on a hot summer day is not a good idea.
Here are some additional tips:
Once you have received your Azodyl order, you should keep it in your refrigerator. Azodyl keeps well at typical refrigerator temperatures of 35°-40°F. Do not put it in the freezer.
Azodyl works because it contains Kibow Biotics®, a unique mixture of three strains of bacteria that have been shown to diffuse uremic toxins, reducing strain on the kidneys. Studies have shown that the numbers of these bacteria can decrease with exposure to warmer temperatures, decreasing the effectiveness of the product.
Last but not least—relax! Many Azodyl orders leave our warehouse every day. We are an authorized Vetoquinol distributor, and we've done the research, working closely with both Vetoquinol and Kibow Biotech to understand the unique nature of this product and advise customers on its care.
Studies have shown that the bacterial counts can remain stable at a temperature of 77°F for up to 14 days. So don’t sweat it if your Azodyl doesn’t hit the fridge immediately—but do take it there as soon as possible. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to help!
